Seven members of the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts were chosen to participate on the North Division All Star Team in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League All Star Game at Povich Field on Wednesday, July 15. The South Division All Star Team defeated the North Division All Star Team by a score of 3-2.
Pitchers Conrad Wozniak (UMBC), En-Sih Huang (Nat. Taiwan UPES), and Connor Tagg (Case Western Reserve) were selected to be three of the 10 pitchers on the North Roster, while position players Cameron Burns (Tulane), Zach Racusin (Marist), Nick Dunn (Maryland), and Steven Paredes (Lindsey Wilson) represented the T-Bolts offensively as well.
The T-Bolt pitchers brought their A-games, throwing a combined 2.2 innings without allowing a single baserunner. Both Wozniak and Huang, the T-Bolts dynamic duo of starters, pitched one inning and struck out one batter apiece. Huang needed only 11 pitches to work his scoreless inning, and Wozniak needed just 12. T-Bolts star closer Connor Tagg got the final out of the eighth inning and the first out of the ninth inning, and he did so on 10 pitches.
The T-Bolt hitters got it done at the plate, reaching base a combined four out of nine times. T-Bolt outfielder and leadoff man Zach Racusin reached base twice, getting hit by a pitch in the third inning and cracking a single in the fifth inning. Racusin also stole a base in the game.
T-Bolt catcher Cameron Burns scored one of the two runs for the North team, scoring on a passed ball while T-Bolts teammate Nick Dunn was at the plate in the sixth inning. Burns singled in his only plate appearance in the game.
A league Home Run Derby was held prior to the All Star Game, and T-Bolts outfielder Victor Nazario (Lindsey Wilson) was selected to participate in the contest. Nathan Lowe (Mississippi State) of the Vienna Riverdogs won the derby after hitting six home runs.
The T-Bolts’ first game after the All Star Break will be on Thursday, July 16, when the T-Bolts travel to Herndon for a doubleheader. The first game begins at 5:00 p.m.
