The Silver Spring-Thunderbolts took the loss in a close game to the Rockville Express 3-1 at Montgomery College on July 14th, dropping their fourth straight game.
Both starting pitchers had stellar outings, with T-Bolts pitcher Darrien Ragins (Delaware State) going seven innings pitched, allowing only one run, and striking out two. However, Express pitcher Riley Arnone (Winthrop) outdueled Ragins, gathering the win in a complete game, with only one run as well (no earned), with 9 strikeouts, allowing only 6 hits and 3 walks.
The Express would strike first, scoring a run in the fourth. Left-fielder Corey Howard (Liberty) started the inning with a single, and scored on Connor Hax’s (Maryland Baltimore County) single after advancing to second on Lewis Guilbeau’s (McNeese State) groundout.
The T-Bolts answered with their only run of the game in the sixth to tie the game at 1-1. A.J. Lee (Maryland) reached base on his single, and would advance to third after Tom Ruddy (Yale) got an infield single and went to third on an error by Express pitcher Arnone. Lee scored from third after an error allowed Paul Burmeester (Catholic) to reach base, tying the score at 1-1.
The Express would take the lead in the eighth with two runs. After T-Bolts pitcher Joe Dahut (Drew), came on in relief of Ragins, and allowed two consecutive singles, he was subbed by pitcher Nick Spadafino (Delaware), who came in from playing first base. The first batter Spadafino faced, Dakota Dean (University of New Orleans), reached base on an error, but both runners came around to score on the ensuing play to bring the score to its final of 3-1.
The T-Bolts were not able to score any more runs in the final two innings of the game, and dropped to 16-15 on the season.
