The Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts lost their second game in a row, falling 6-2 to the Bethesda Big Train at Blair Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The loss dropped the T-Bolts to 9-7 on the season, a solid second place in the North Division of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (CRCBL), four games behind the Baltimore Redbirds (14-4).
The Big Train improved to 15-3, the best record in the CRCBL.
Bethesda jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the first two innings off T-Bolts starter Michael Austin (Bethune-Cookman), now 0-1.
The T-Bolts mustered only one hit through the first six innings of Wednesday’s game, but scratched out a couple of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Nick Dunn (Maryland) and Matt Rowland (Tulane) started the inning with back-to-back singles, and the T-Bolts scored their first run later in the inning on Hunter Hope’s (Tulane) sacrifice fly.
Immediately following the sac-fly, Brody Cook’s (VCU) slow roller to the shortstop forced an errant throw, allowing Victor Nazario (Lindsey Wilson) to score all the way from first base. Cook advanced to third base on the error.
The T-Bolts stranded Cook at third base, and the the home team went down quietly in the eighth and ninth innings.
On Friday evening, the T-Bolts will look to bounce back when they host the Rockville Express (6-8) for a doubleheader. The teams will finish a rain-delayed game from June 15. Play was suspended in the sixth inning with the Express leading the T-Bolts 2-1. After the end of the suspended game, the T-Bolts and Express will lace ’em up (or perhaps keep ’em laced) for a second game. The in-progress game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m, and the second game will start soon after the conclusion of the first game.
Nick Spadafino (Delaware) is expected to get the start for the T-Bolts in Friday’s first game, and CRCBL Pitcher of the Week En-Sih Huang (National Taiwan UPES) is expected to start the second game.
A single ticket will get a fan in for both games, so take advantage of the deal, bring your friends and family and come out to the stadium on Friday to cheer on your T-Bolts!
